"I have considered going back to Wilmington for my doctorate; my main concern is my family at this point. The atmosphere at Wilmington was wonderful and energetic."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | Wilmington is really a no "BS" university. You are there to learn and have fun with learning. |
| Program Reputation | 7 | More and more people choose to be teachers everyday. Wilmington has recognized this niche and has capitalized on it. Like I said earlier, they offer programs for the working individual as well as the more "formal" classes. |
| Program Quality | 6 | When I am ready to apply for a Principal position, it will more that likely be at an elementary school, possibly a middle school. I believe that it would be easier to try and correct the problems when students are at a younger age. High school students have pretty much already decided where their lives are headed. |
| Instruction | 6 | Instruction learned in college was only enough to give you the basic understanding of what a teacher is suppose to do. I've always said, a teacher never stops learning. You have to adapt your teaching methods/styles on a daily basis. High School students are hormonal and you never know what type of class you are going to have from day to day. |
| How Difficult | 5 | Wilmington University has a program geared for the "working student" so the work load wasn't too difficult. I was able to manage my classwork/lesson plans/grades and my Master's homework all at the same time |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | When it comes to Teaching, you can't be effective by reading a book. Being in a classroom with mostly teachers, we were able to share examples of how each of us "got the point across" to our students. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 9 | Classes were either twice a week for 2.5 hrs. or once a week for 5 hrs. The 5 hr. classes never actually ran the full time. Like I stated above, I was able to manage a full-time career and a Master's program. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | Most of my courses were at a satellite campus. The main campus was very nice and had a many resources for the students. |
| Social Life | 6 | At the satellite campus, there are enough dorms/athletic fields. Most full-time students attend the main campus which is where the parties were taking place. I had already sewed my oats, so I was only there to focus on my degree. |
| Placement Services | I already had a job teaching so I did not look for the school to help me with job placement. The staff at Wilmington was always very supportive though, so I can't see them not helping students who requested assistance. | |
| Alumni Network | 5 | I receive a flier once a year for Alumni events/news. Other than that, I really have not had any contact from the University since my graduation |
