"I did not like the professors, the school's financial motivations, or the emphasis of theoretical teaching philosophy over practical experience. At the time, I was too overwhelmed with surviving the program to analyze it clearly. Now, when I look back on useful (positive and negative) experiences that have helped mold my teaching methods, I cannot think of a single one that came from my time in the education program at UK."

| Would Recommend? | no | The quality of the program is little or no better than can be found elsewhere (May I suggest EKU, 25 miles south?) The true interests of the university are best expressed in its constantly rising tuition. Cheer for the big blue, but go somewhere else. |
| Program Reputation | 4 | Tuition is too high; value received is too low. Also, in a state that groups grade 6 through 8 as middle school-age, the certification they give qualifies graduates for grades 8-12, essentially making any positions in middle school out of reach. |
| Program Quality | 2 | Tuition is too high. Also, only about 1/4 of the instruction was worthwhile. Could have learned a lot more in a long-term substituting position. |
| Instruction | 5 | The parts that were worthwhile were good. The excess was garbage. |
| How Difficult | 5 | If you care about the material, the classes are challenging, interesting, and engaging. If you are stuck rehashing points of view you do not believe in, it is a major grind. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Student teaching was hands on. The extra classes were book-learning centered. The student teaching was much preferred to the classes. Grading papers was preferable to the classes. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 1 | Students, many of whom needed extra cash flow, were told to abandon jobs, family, friends, and social lives in favor of extended study (NOT kidding). Full days observing and student teaching were followed thrice weekly with a one-hour class, and once weekly with a four hour class. All classes were mandatory, of course. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | Library resources and computer access were readily available. Specific libraries, like the education library, were occasionally limited in their hours of operation. Parking was terrible. |
| Social Life | My peak of school-spirit for this university peaked in high-school. I am anti-social by nature, so I did not attend parties, pep-rallies, etc. Football is big-time for home games; basketball is the state religion. As for the rest, I had practically no experience with the social aspects. | |
| Placement Services | 1 | Either you have a job lined up through home county connections, or you are unemployed. Their idea of career aid is the student teaching school you attend. So, a school with 2 future opening gets 5 student teachers, two of which are from the school's county. |
| Alumni Network | The University of Kentucky is mostly concerned with how much money they can drain from students for the least services possible, and with getting corporations to sponsor them. In a state whose natural beauty is destroyed by mining, the university agreed (for a sizable payment) to name its flagship dorm the "Wildcat Coal Lodge." I have no idea what the UK Alumni network is like, because I routinely pitch all their correspondence...in a fire, when possible. |

| Would Recommend? | yes | In Kentucky, I think WKU is the best option for pursuing education. There are lots of great resources and a great campus environment. |
| Program Reputation | 10 | WKU has received many awards in education. We are well known in the state for providing a great education program. |
| Program Quality | 8 | WKU was very helpful in preparing us for the field. Student teaching as well as hands-on experiences early in the program really did a lot for me. |
| Instruction | 10 | We had great professors. All of them had great backgrounds and provided great curriculums. |
| How Difficult | 5 | I found the education part of the program easy. The English studies part was difficult for me. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | We were required to spend a lot of time in the field, in addition to bookwork. I felt very prepared because of this. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 3 | The schedule was not flexible, because most classes required fieldwork. We needed to be able to go to local schools during the school day. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | Great resources and professors, as well as peer support. I was not pleased with the advising staff. |
| Social Life | 10 | I couldn't be more proud to be a Hilltopper. I loved attending games and WKU-organized events, and I still do. |
| Placement Services | 3 | I attended a job fair my senior year. I was given no other career service assistance. |
| Alumni Network | 10 | We have great alumni support. Everyone is proud to be from WKU, especially those from the education program. |
