"Overall, I would not trade my four years here for anything else. The professors in my department were great, the teaching was fantastic, and the students are fun and have spirit. I have a valuable degree, which I can hopefully use to advance my career further."

| Would Recommend? | yes | I think the education here definitely qualifies you for teaching high school; actually, much more than that. The concepts are useful, and the professors make it pretty interesting, too! |
| Program Reputation | 5 | Our strengths as a school in the humanities and social sciences are more along the lines of English and Psychology, but Economics has a decent reputation. There is a lot of joint work between Economics and Psychology, due to the interdisciplinary nature of the fields. |
| Program Quality | 7 | The faculty at URI was very accessible. They do interesting research (and I was involved in a research project as an undergrad that allowed me to collaborate closely with a professor), but more importantly, they have a strong focus on teaching. |
| Instruction | 8 | While there are definitely some sub-par teachers (e.g., those who can't communicate clearly in English), the ones who I have had the most experience with were very effective. There is definitely some bias here. I can choose not to take electives with bad professors, so they do not affect my opinion that much. There was one required class with a terrible teacher, but I generally chose electives with good teachers (rather than topics I necessarily found interesting), because a good teacher can make anything interesting. |
| How Difficult | 6 | There were some classes that required over 10 hours per week of homework, but others required less than 2. In a typical semester, I would say that I had a decent spread of classes (some harder, some easier). |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | I would have to say that it's a mix. It depends on what field you are in. With the sciences, there are lab courses, so it's very hands on, but there is also a substantial amount of reading that needs to be done in any class. The homework assignments, e.g., using a computer to analyze statistical data, can be considered hands on, and these projects were very helpful. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 4 | There were not online classes or weekend classes, but summer school was an option. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | There is no shortage of academic resources at URI. The professors especially seem committed to their students and to their fields. Facilities here are very nice as well. |
| Social Life | 7 | I am a big basketball fan, and I love the URI basketball team. I went to a few games every year, and I even went to one this past year as well! |
| Placement Services | 4 | I did not personally benefit from the job placement services. I found them to be somewhat weak, but they definitely try their best. |
| Alumni Network | 4 | I wouldn't say that I made a lot of connections. The recruiting scene is minimal, but within the state, the degree is recognized as being strong. |

| Would Recommend? | yes | If they were able to get to the school, I think it would be an excellent option. It isn't Brown, but it's pretty close. |
| Program Reputation | 10 | Brilliant program. |
| Program Quality | 8 | I think that the math and science programs get more attention because they think that it will get people further. |
| Instruction | 10 | I was a marketing associate for years before I decided to go back to school, and I am extremely glad I chose RWU. It was close to home, and my professors were fantastic. |
| How Difficult | 6 | I maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my 2-year program (I already had a bachelor's degree), despite having a young child and a wife who worked long hours. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Definitely mostly books, but there were classes that were very hands on; especially my student-teaching semester. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | I had a young child and a wife, and I was still able to complete my degree. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | When I used the library, I found it to be extremely helpful. Also, I was always able to discuss the material with the teachers. |
| Social Life | I was an adult going back to grad school, so I did not partake in the social activities. | |
| Placement Services | 5 | The market for teachers was bad when I left school, so there wasn't much they could do to help. |
| Alumni Network | I no longer live in Rhode Island. About a year after I graduated, we relocated to Florida to be closer to my wife's family. |
