| Would Recommend? | yes | I would highly recommend ITT Technical Institute to anyone pursuing a career in the Computer Science industry because not only will they be learning from the most current curriculum, but they will also be taught hands on skill sets needed to meet industry demand. This in combination with the valuable resource of having a very involved and supportive staff of instructors and advisors is certainly key to success of any career minded individual. |
| Program Reputation | 9 | ITT Technical Institute still holds leading standards and reputation in my program of ISS (Information System Security). I believe this will remain true due to their high standards in instruction as they continue to focus teaching through hands on learning experiences rather than a lot of theory, which other colleges focus on. The core classes provided there are equipped with the network, hardware and software environment to enable hands on learning throughout each learning course. For example, in our Forensics class we were able to recover lost data on disks by using various forensics software tools and commands. |
| Program Quality | 10 | ITT Technical Institute provides an excellent curriculum in the core classes of the CNS (Computer Network Systems) and ISS (Information System Security) programs. The curriculum used is kept current to industry standards due in part to the fact that the active board members who vote on curriculum material are actually employed in the industry itself. |
| Instruction | 10 | I rate the instruction quality very high because students are provided hands on learning experiences rather than theory only, to enable development in skill sets required for this industry. Having hands on lab exercises with real equipment and the use of various software applications enabled me to be prepared for entry level positions immediately in my industry. |
| How Difficult | 7 | Although the instructors and curriculum at ITT Tech were excellent, I rate the level of difficulty as above average because I had little experience with computers prior to my education there. When studying some of the core classes, such as Computer Programming and Database, there were some challenges for me in grasping the concepts. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | ITT Technical Institute provides a very hands on learning experience in the program's core classes. There were enough resources available and in depth instruction for this to be successful. A good example is the Cisco CCNA class, where we were able to constantly setup network connection and configuration changes through a Cisco Switch by using command line in a terminal window. This practice was a great learning experience to prepare for practical knowledge and skill development. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | The school's class schedule was pretty flexible. Occasionally I had a need to change a class and found that it was available on a different day or time of the week. Weekends were usually open with the classes I needed as well. Online courses were almost always available in the classes I needed except that there was a limit as to how many online classes could be taken at once in a given quarter. |
| Academic Facilities | 9 | The academic facility was very resourceful in that the computer hardware, software resources and laboratories were always available. The library was full of helpful resources as well. Study support groups were occasionally hard to find due to scheduling conflicts, but this was rare. Overall the resources and academic advisors were readily available when needed. |
| Social Life | 9 | My social experience at the school was very good. I enjoyed the events that were held for students and their families. There were many cookouts and gaming parties throughout the year. There were also local chapter professional organizations that participated in community charity events as well. |
| Placement Services | 10 | ITT Technical Institute of Newburgh, Indiana has a team of very supportive career service representatives on staff. They are constantly on top of local area job leads in the industry and they are very helpful to those students and alumni seeking work. They send out emails on a daily basis to job seekers of anything new that comes in. They also provide any additional assistance necessary to help land a job, such as resume writing, interview preparation, industry research references and portfolio building. Overall they have been very helpful by almost any means I can think of and if there was something they couldn't help with, usually they were able to direct me to someone that could. |
| Alumni Network | 10 | I found the alumni network at ITT Tech to be very helpful and supportive. We often had guest speakers (prior graduates) who would come and share their career experiences and how they entered the industry. This gave students a realistic perspective as to the various options of how we could enter the IT industry and the different career paths to be taken. |
