"With the 6 different colleges that I have attended they were not the top, but then they were not at the bottom of the list either"

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

Would Recommend?yesLike I have said in previous questions, they are the best school in the area for technology. If they don't want to have to travel a long distance for their schooling.
Program Reputation9For the area they are the best. They are always full for the amount of students they can handle. The teachers that they get are very knowledgeable.
Program Quality7the school is the best for the region, but they do not stand close to a DeVry Institute for Technology.
InstructionMore than 5 years ago
How Difficult7I was always bored in school cause I felt that the pace was always slow, I guess I like to learn with my hair on fire
Hands-On vs. Bookishwith technology there is only one way to learn it and that is Hands on, with some theory behind it, and they did a good job on that
Schedule Flexibility4there was only one night class and the others were packed in to the morning or early afternoon timeframe. this was nice except for the older students that would have like to keep a decent job during their time there
Academic Facilities9the teachers were good about having a nice size budget in order to get the latest equipment that was needed for teaching. this was good cause by the time the first semester is over the equipment is already outdated
Social Life5they did the basic homecoming type week and in the spring they would do coed softball. noting too bad, but could have been better
Placement Services7when I went there in 99-00 they did not have a very organized placement program, I have heard that it has gotten better. when I was there they would write down everything that all the students were finding and posting for everyone to apply for.
Alumni Network3I gave such a low rating cause everything that I ever get from them is give us money. I guess if they wanted me to be more active in the alumni program, maybe have things that are for the alumni and don't cost money.

University Of Minnesota - Twin Cities • Minneapolis, MN
Studying Computer Science (completion in 2008)

"Overall, I'm very satisfied with my school decision. I managed to save a ton of money by attending an in-state school and getting the associated discount, while still getting a very good education and ending up with a very fulfilling job."

Would Recommend?yesI believe the University of Minnesota is a good choice to people looking to break into the Systems Analyst field. Although computer science is a bit more development-focused, the school will prepare you with enough breadth to be able to quickly pick up the things you might not be familiar with yet.
Program Reputation7I think the U of M is a great school to attend for Computer Science. Traveling to the coasts would be necessary to find a program that is clearly superior.
Program Quality7For a Midwest school, the U of M is regarded quite well in the Computer Science and Engineering area. In my opinion, you'd have to travel to the coasts to find a college that's clearly superior.
Instruction6Once you get past the intro level classes, the instruction is very focused and well done. However, those intro level courses (Calculus, Physics, and the first level Programming classes) are quite a bear, as you're mostly taught by grad students. Class size is also enormous, with many easily reaching 300+ in a lecture hall.
How Difficult7In my opinion, Computer Science is one of the easiest "hard science" degrees available. It's more difficult than any liberal arts degree, but not quite as difficult as Physics or Chemistry.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere's a pretty solid mix between hands-on and book learning, but I believe the instruction tended to lean towards hands-on. Almost every computer science class had a lab section in which every student actively participating was writing code on a weekly basis, on top of our regular coding assignments.
Schedule Flexibility10Classes are extremely flexible and can accommodate almost any hour of any day, or even remotely via the internet. Very convenient for people who are working in addition to attending school.
Academic Facilities8There are dozens of available computer labs where work can be accomplished, and the same goes for libraries. Some of the buildings are starting to show their age, but overall, it's a minor issue.
Social Life6The social experiences I was involved in were mostly positive. The sports teams are pretty well represented, even when they're not doing well, like the current football team.
Placement ServicesI didn't have any experience with my school's job placement/career services area. I managed to land an internship that turned into a full-time opportunity all on my own.
Alumni Network5In truth, I haven't really kept up to date with the school after graduation. However, they continually send me emails and letters letting me know things that are happening on campus.
