"I was mostly satisfied with the professional experience I received. I was also impressed with the social aspect, although the school lacked academically."

Would Recommend?maybeRutgers has evolved and changed over the years and thus I believe that would affect my decision. Most likely I wouldn't advise someone to go due to raised tuition and an increase in student populace.
Program Reputation7The school holds a reputation of having strong programs, but the computer science field sometimes falls under the radar. However, the school is known for difficult curriculums.
Program Quality5School prepares you theoretically, but does not focus intensely enough on the programming itself. The actual application of theory is also lacking.
Instruction7Teachers provided a good amount of information and preparation, but they often did not explain how the industry worked. They also tended to highlight their own skills rather than pass on skills.
How Difficult8Software application is actually very stressing. It was highly regarded. The only majors that were more difficult were engineering and pharmacy.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe school provided very little hands on work. The material was mostly theoretical and was not applied. Most application experience I received was post college.
Schedule Flexibility8Rutgers provided much flexibility in its schedules. Classes could be taken almost any semester and in any order. The offerings were both during the semester, during the summer, and online.
Academic Facilities8The facilities at the school provided a strong space for studying and working with others. Professors were scarce but I had a good experience with them nevertheless.
Social Life10Rutgers provides a dynamic atmosphere in which to socialize and build relationships. I still hold these relationships professionally and socially.
Placement Services2The school did not help at all with career placement. It only advised us as to which would be the best places and websites to look for jobs.
Alumni NetworkI do not keep in touch with the school, and thus I am not sure about the alumni support offered. I believe the support would be minimal.

"The school expanded my knowledge of Computer Science. I found the total experience enjoyable, looking back, although there were times during the process that a lot of hard work was required."

Would Recommend?yesThose who want to increase their knowledge of Computer Science would do well at FDU. Since there are many evening and weekend classes, it is especially fine for those currently working and want to get ahead.
Program Reputation7There is an extensive Computer Science department at FDU. I think we were well prepared upon graduation.
Program Quality8The courses required expanded my knowledge base in general, and also on a specific line. This school changed the location for this major midway through my studies, which was inconvenient.
Instruction8The instructors were quite knowledgeable and were able to answer questions. The course of study was such that several specific fields could be selected.
How Difficult5The work could have been very hard or less so depending on one's aptitude for this field. Some classes were easy for me because of prior study, but others required a lot more effort, so all in all, a positive experience.
Hands-On vs. BookishAlthough all fields of study require a certain amount of "book learning," this field requires extensive practical experience. The classes involved hands-on experiences when necessary.
Schedule Flexibility8I was able to fit my classes into my busy schedule. There were classes in the summer and a winter session.
Academic Facilities8The library and computer lab were available at the times I needed them. The instructor to student ratio was acceptable.
Social Life7The school activities were numerous and varied. As an adult graduate student with a full-time job, I participated in few of them, but they were well publicized and open to all.
Placement ServicesThis is not really applicable to me personally since I had a job during my years of study there. From conversations with others, it appears that there were adequate job placement services.
Alumni Network8The alumni office has been in contact with me since I graduated. Now, the alumni association has an online presence which makes contact even easier.

"I think Rutgers is a great school and they gave me a solid foundation for what I am currently doing in my career. I do wish they had more hands on work and that they gave biter access to teachers who were adjunct."

Would Recommend?yesI think this school would be good for someone pursuing a career in Information Technology. I would recommend taking as many electives in the area as possible and I think it is even more beneficial if you are attending school while working in the same field, it allows for real world application of what you are learning immediately.
Program Reputation8I don't really know what perception others have of Rutgers as it relates to specific majors, but Rutgers does have a good reputation as a excellent school. During interviews no one has commented on the fact that I received this particular degree from Rutgers
Program Quality8It was a good foundation, but it is academic, so not real world application. The curriculum did provide a good basis for having the right tools to apply to the role.
Instruction8I learned a great deal, but even 2 years later it is hard to recall how much I learned through school vs. what I have learned in my professional career. The relevance and quality of the curriculum was good, and I liked that it had a focus on system analyst which was required. The introduction to Database Management Systems helped while I was working in my prior role while attending the school.
How Difficult6I put a lot of effort into my schooling, especially since I am paying for it, and I like a challenge. The work was average, but it could have challenged me more and I might have learned things that I couldn't have picked up on the job.
Hands-On vs. BookishI wish they had a lot more hands on. They offered some hands on work, especially as you reached the end of the semester, but I think they could have incorporated it throughout the semester on a regular consistent basis.
Schedule Flexibility10I worked full time and went to school full time and I never had an issue with registering for a class with the limited time I had. They had a great evening and Saturday program which allowed me to continue working while attending school.
Academic Facilities9I thought they did a great job here, lots of online access, registrations and classrooms were open with a sign up sheet to use. The only drawback was that you had to wait before getting an appointment with an Advisor and sometimes professors were adjunct so they weren't always available, but with them being an adjunct it had its own benefits as they were doing this job in the real world.
Social Life7As I mentioned I went at night, so I didn't interact as much as one would had they attended during the day. But there was an overall school spirit you could feel with the sports and various activities that occurred. I did partake in some social events and they were good, always lots of people and lots of activities happening.
Placement Services8As I mentioned in one of the prior comments, I haven't really had to use it personally. I did find that they do have a lot of resources, job sites, Career Counseling and seminars so they do offer a robust job program.
Alumni Network8I don't regularly participate in any alumni programs, but I do receive emails and updates from the school on a regular basis. I also reached out to them when I was recently out of work to help with my networking and finding a new role. I didn't really get to take advantage as I found a role before everything came together.

"I was pretty satisfied with the level of education provided at the school. Professors were friendly overall with a few exceptions."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesAlthough there were some downsides to the school program, overall the experience was definitely beneficial. The school is a good place for people who are cost-oriented and want to get a good education at an affordable price.
Program Reputation7It was a great program involving many guest speakers and development seminars. It is also rated fairly high for business.
Program Quality7The program was very comprehensive with a wide variety of offerings. There were also additional seminars which students could attend to further their knowledge of different topics.
Instruction7Same reasons as above. It was good overall.
How Difficult8Difficulty depended upon the professors taken for specific courses. Hard coursework could be made easy with good professors and the opposite as well.
Hands-On vs. BookishLearning at the school was much more book-oriented than hands-on. There were limited opportunities to gain hands on experience within the real world.
Schedule Flexibility6There were some diverse offerings. However, classes during the weekends and classes taken online were very limited in comparison with weekday/weeknight classes.
Academic Facilities5Useful resources, but nothing out of the ordinary. The most useful resource was IRIS, which was a collection of databases.
Social Life6It was a fun overall experience. It could have been better in certain aspects though.
Placement Services5Career Services were helpful. However, the services were lacking in several respects such as in specialization for recruiting among specific career paths.
Alumni Network4Although there was an alumni network at the school, it was not that helpful. Alumni from the school rarely visited the school to help out current students.
