Program Reputation7Most companies in the Southwest actively sought BCS/MIS students from NMSU because they were impressed overall with the base skill set the major provided.
Program Quality10The Systems Analysis class is what helped me make the decision to become an analyst/consultant. The entire BCS program at the time gave me all of the necessary skills I needed for my career.
Instruction10Every professor in the BCS school was fabulous. All had real world experience and doctorates. It provided a "best of both worlds" perspective.
How Difficult8I worked hard so it may have seemed easier to me than it really was. There were others in my class who struggled, and I don't think I'm the smartest chap in the world.
Hands-On vs. BookishIt was a perfect blend. Like I said before, professors had the advantage of real-world experience and academic experience, so they knew exactly how to hone their curriculum to prepare us for the job market.
Schedule Flexibility10I was able to wait tables 30 hours a week, go to the gym almost 2 hours a day, and still have time to study well enough to get A's. I even attended parties once or twice a week. None of this could have been possible without the amount of classes available and the flexible hours.
Academic Facilities10Many high tech labs on campus, all of the professors made themselves available to meet with students in private, many facilities where student teams and groups could organize, and a centralized student community (even off campus) created an environment where getting what one needed to perform their tasks was easy.
Social Life10I loved every aspect of student life at NMSU, even with a crappy football team.
Placement Services10It was very good. Even while the Tech bomb exploded I was still able to interview with several major companies, and even progress to second and third interviews. It wasn't the school's fault that everyone went on a hiring freeze that Spring.
Alumni Network1I haven't spoken to anyone from NMSU since I left in terms of networking.
