Studying Technical Management (completion in 2009)

7/19/2011

"I'm glad I went to DeVry. I did accumulate a lot of student loan debt by doing it, though."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesDeVry does have that great reputation for technical majors. I think they execute their 'can-be-exclusively-online' approach well.
Program Reputation6I'm not really sure how my specific program rates. DeVry overall has a really high reputation for technical majors.
Program Quality7DeVry has a great reputation for technical majors and I felt like it lived up to those expectations. I learned things I apply everyday at my current job.
Instruction8Career development is a core class at DeVry that everyone takes regardless of major. I learned a great deal and fine tuned tidbits of knowledge I already knew. Nice to have had some management classes in my program.
How Difficult7I juggled a full-time schedule and a full-time job which was definitely challenging. I was pretty busy with class work in every bit of free time I had.
Hands-On vs. BookishAgain, with most of my classes being online, there was mostly a hands-off approach. Virtual learning labs were still available and used by me in at least one class. Definitely more hands on in some of the few classes I had on campus. I think they were career development related.
Schedule Flexibility10At DeVry, EVERY class is available online. The classes I did take on-site were in the evening so they didn't interfere with my full-time job.
Academic Facilities6Access to these resources was available, but since most of my classes were online they were unconventional. For example, we had no tangible library at my campus, but it was brand new. Not sure if that has changed since I graduated.
Social Life5Considering most class offerings at my campus were online, there definitely were no athletics so to speak of. Occasionally there were events that brought all the students together but for me, most interaction happened in the classroom, whether virtual or face-to-face.
Placement Services5I'm glad these services are offered, but I haven't sought them so far. I have the same job I did before I got my degree and I'm definitely thinking about making 2011 my final year there. Definitely considering contacting career services for help.
Alumni Network5I like that DeVry offers career assistance and help with job placement. I get emails regarding the alumni association that seem informative but I don't actively engage in the association.

This is achieved through a working knowledge of information technologies, combined with hands-on experience applying these technical skills to problems in actual organizations.

This combined with the excellent relationships with major companies in all sectors of the marketplace and proved beneficial for the graduates seeking a foot in at many companies.
How Difficult10Instructors strive to maintain the integrity of an MIS degree. Classes range from coding languages to enterprise database solutions to finance classes. This again provides for a very well-rounded degree.
Hands-On vs. BookishLabs are always provided at the school. All seniors are required to complete a semester-long project with a company.
Schedule Flexibility9Most schedules for core requirements are flexible. Only the advanced classes tend to be a more structured schedule.
Academic Facilities10Price College of Business invests a large amount of money to ensure that its students have the latest resources to be competitive in the marketplace. The professors are easily accessible for meetings.
Social Life10The University of Oklahoma has one the best school spirits. The love of football has always run deep in Oklahoma, and there is no better example of this than on the campus at the University of Oklahoma.
Placement Services10The Center for MIS Studies, started in 1996, has 22 member companies that actively participate in student recruiting, support faculty research, and contribute to teaching. MISSA, the student organization, is very active with recruiters.
