"MATC was a good school to start out with. They provided a good basis for the skills needed in this field."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeI would recommend this school to a person that is older verses someone that is just out of high school. If just out of high school, I would strongly recommend the university program just because it is more in depth then MATC's.
Program Reputation5Many employers have heard of the program at MATC. No one, however, has ever said that the MATC program was the best.
Program Quality7I feel that the program I took didn't focus enough on one thing. It was a class about every aspect of my job.
Instruction10My instructors were awesome. They tried their best to give us as much "real world" experience as they could.
How Difficult3For me the classes were easy, I took them to quickly. I saw others struggle, but for me it was not a difficult load.
Hands-On vs. BookishBeing a technology based program, very few books were used. Most of the work and learning was by doing. Books were there as a helpful guide.
Schedule Flexibility5I only had a problem getting two classes in my schedule due to the limited availability of the classes. It was frustrating, but I did gain an additional certification because of it.
Academic Facilities10MATC had the latest in software and equipment for computers. They offered both Macs and PC's, which is wonderful for web developers.
Social Life1These activities were never really advertised. I am not sure even what sports they offered to watch or play.
Placement Services1Like I said above, I have received no support or job placement services from the school once I graduated. While in school I was required to take a Portfolio class which had some help. I received two internships through this class, but once graduated it stopped.
Alumni Network3I have received no support from the school since I have left. I am rather disappointed in this because they pride themselves on placing their students in the workforce.

"They did not provide me with what I need to work in my field. Right now everything I do and every language I use is self taught, because they taught the wrong stuff."

Would Recommend?maybeI wouldn't of course, because they didn't teach the right information. However, that was over 10 years ago; they could have very well updated their program. And having professors teach the subjects rather than aides is a big bonus.
Program Reputation2They are rated low because they didn't teach the right languages, and few without in-college / pre-college internships could actually work in their field of study.
Program Quality2They taught the wrong programming languages for the job, and the wrong database languages. I guess this was so that they wouldn't have to pay for the more expensive software? These were vital to the MIS program. However, they were way too far off for anyone to get a job without an internship, and there were hardly any of those available at the time.
Instruction3I'm only upping the rating because they taught general studies. For the degree, it was antiquated. They were at least 8 years behind.
How Difficult7Their business - MIS degree had the largest course requirements of any program they offered. You had to carry at least a full load to complete the program, and all courses required a good amount of homework and projects.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere was a good mix of learning, even if some of the books they chose were poorly written and included the wrong information.
Schedule Flexibility3It wasn't very flexible. You usually had to take summer courses just to fit the requirements in.
Academic Facilities3Their equipments was dated, but they replaced it right before I graduated. They had a very limited tutor program, and no school organized study groups. However, the professors are actually the ones that taught the classes - a big plus. Too bad they taught the wrong stuff.
Social Life2It was just a school, and there was a very, very limited athletics program. School spirit amounted to wearing one of their t-shirts.
Placement Services1They held a job fair once a year. They also managed to secure 3 internships for our program in 3 years.
Alumni Network6They constantly bother me trying to keep me informed of the few that make it. It's very annoying and irritating.
