Middlesex Community College • Lowell, MA
Studying Engineering (completion in )

8/10/2011

"I was not blown away by my school. on the other hand, I did not think they did poorly or performed below expectations. I knew going in that it was a fairly average school."

Would Recommend?maybeIt would depend on what they were trying to do. It would also depend on their current position in life and how quickly they wanted to complete their degree.
Program Reputation8My school is known to be an alright school for engineering. they are closely associated with Umass Lowell which is very highly regarded.
Program Quality5I don't feel that my school was particularly bad, but I think there is certainly room for improvement.
Instruction7I found most instructors to be above average. I also found that a lack of variance and choice in curriculum was a downfall.
How Difficult10The level of math and science necessary made the program very difficult. Also, needing to be well versed in general studies added to the difficulty.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere was not much hands on work. They did not have very many facilities for engineering.
Schedule Flexibility5Most classes were offered during the day. There were a few that you could do at night, weekend, or online, but it would be almost impossible to get a degree just doing those.
Academic Facilities9There was a nice library and computer network. There was also an excellent math tutoring center.
Social Life1There were no school athletics. Also, seeing as there were no dorms, it was not a very tightly knit community.
Placement Services6There was some focus on job placement. There was no incredible focus on it or amazing statistics regarding placement.
Alumni Network2I am not very associated with the alumni network. I do not receive anything from them except when they ask for donations.

Wheelock College • Boston, MA
Studying Humanities (completion in 2009)

"Although I have my qualms with Wheelock, it was inarguably the best time of my life. I cherish the knowledge I gained at the school."

Would Recommend?maybeI would advise anyone to choose carefully when deciding to go to a private college. I am in a mountain of debt because of it. However, the quality of my education was superb.
Program Reputation8Around Boston, Wheelock is synonymous with helping children and their families. Wheelock also helps their teachers pass the MTEL's.
Program Quality8I had excellent Professors and amazing field experiences. I spent over 500 hours in classrooms before I graduated.
Instruction7There was a lot to learn once I graduated. I felt I lacked a strong sense of classroom behavior management. I also felt unprepared to deal with alternative standardized assessments.
How Difficult8I had many obligations to fulfill while student teaching. I had three seminar classes while spending thirty hours in the classroom each week.
Hands-On vs. BookishI spent a lot of time working with children. I also spent a long time reading (about children.)
Schedule Flexibility5There are evening classes and weekend and summer seminars, However there are no online classes available.
Academic Facilities9The small size of the campus and enrollment allowed me ample face time with my professors. There was a writing center to help with papers, and mandatory study groups for math class.
Social Life2Although the social scene was enough for some, I was uninterested by most of the events available. I did take advantage of the theater and any free food offered.
Placement Services5I chose average because I've experienced vastly different treatment in this regard. I was given excellent placements, yet the career services department has been unhelpful in helping me solve a licensure problem.
Alumni Network5Word of mouth and the small size of Wheelock has led me to run into many of my fellow alumni. They also utilize social networking to keep in touch.
