International College Students in the US

Students coming to the US from countries across the world are a vibrant aspect of US higher education. The Institute of International Education (IIE) has recently reported that the number of international students in the US reached an all time high at over 600,000. Annual inquires from prospective international students sent to the US Department of State has recently been at 25 million -- and this does not include inquiries sent directly to schools or other organizations. Students coming to the US take on studies through a variety of avenues, including exchange programs, college and university programs (for semester, year, or degree), and vocational schools.

Areas of study are wide ranging, with the top fields including busines and management, engineering, physical and life sciences, social sciences, and mathematical and computer sciences. Over half of the international students in the US are pursuing graduate degrees with the other half pursuing undergraduate degrees, English studies, or non-degree education.
