BrainTrack Announces Computer Science Scholarship Winners for Fall 2011

Winners From Harvey Mudd College and University of Central Florida Offer Insights for Other Students

MARLBOROUGH, MA, January 23, 2012 - BrainTrack, a widely referenced higher-education and career resource, today announced the Fall 2012 winners of its BrainTrack Computer Science Degree Scholarship, a twice yearly scholarship for computer science degree students that is designed to help future students. The winners are Obosa Obazuaye of Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California, who received the $1,000 first-place award, and Kristjan Arumae, of the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida, who received the $500 second-place award.

"BrainTrack's Computer Science Scholarship program provides those considering computer science and information technology careers with helpful perspectives of real students," explains David Siegel, Vice President of Operations with BrainTrack's publisher, Futuremeld, LLC. "Selections from the essays are published, providing visitors with useful information about this field of study. The winners were selected using factors such as the creativity and usefulness of their essays."

Winners Emphasize Working with Others and Enjoyment of School

The first place essay from Obosa Obazuaye, who is working towards a bachelor's degree in computer science, described the importance of being ready to work in groups and to work with computing resources created by others. He writes, "Working with another person may seem daunting and undesirable at first because of the possibility that the other person may dislike your ideas or may not be at the same level as you, which would require you to do more explaining to the person of what your thought process is. However, in the long run, it is definitely a positive experience."

In addition to this, Obosa observed that unexpectedly he has been spending more of his time "thinking out my code, writing down pseudocode or illustrations or my though processes, and simply learning about how to approach a problem, rather than attacking it with a bunch of code and algorithms."

Runner up Kristjan Arumae, who is pursuing his bachelor's degree in computer science, advised that students make the effort to have fun to "counter schoolwork and deadlines." He points out that "You will look back on your time in school as a fun experience and not as nerve-racking exams and agonizing hours of study."
