BrainTrack Announces Nursing Scholarship Winners for Fall 2011
Winners from California State University Long Beach & Macomb Community College Share Insights with Future Students
MARLBOROUGH, MA, January 23, 2012 - BrainTrack, a widely referenced higher-education and career resource, announced today the Fall 2011 winners of its BrainTrack Nursing Schools Scholarship, a twice yearly scholarship for nursing students that is intended to help future students. The winners are Amanda Erin Aguilar of California State University Long Beach in Long Beach California, who received the $1,000 first-place award, and Jessica Kleiner of Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan, who received a $500 second-place award.
"The essay responses from all the entrants offer helpful insights for those considering a career in nursing," explains David Siegel, Vice President of Operations with BrainTrack's publisher, Futuremeld, LLC. "Selections from our scholarship entries are published on our site. The winners were chosen based on the creativity, usefulness and thoughtfulness of their essays."
Winners Discuss Preparation and Considerations for Entering Nursing
Amanda Erin Aguilar described in detail the many physical, emotional, and spiritual things to be aware of before making a decision to enter nursing. She touched upon working with everyone involved in a healthcare team and the necessity of being able to multitask well. She is pursuing her Bachelors in Nursing degree.
Amanda offered a number of practical tips for studying, all revolving around the need to be strategic in approach while being aware of individual learning styles. She also gave insights into choosing and getting into a nursing program, including knowing the competition, considering bachelor vs. associate options, and the pros and cons of the length of candidate programs.
Second place winner Jessica Kleiner writes about nurses needing to "expect the unexpected" and offers examples to illustrate her point. To help decide if nursing is the right career choice she suggests job shadowing a real nurse to get a real sense of the job, versus depending on Hollywood depictions. She also offers thoughtful advice on avoiding heartbreak in the profession, suggesting that students "recognize that nursing is not about how many lives you save, but about the impact you make on the lives you touch." Jessica is studying for her Associate Degree in Nursing (RN).
The winning essay entries as well as a summary of useful tips offered by entrants, are published in BrainTrack's Nursing Student Stories section.
