BrainTrack Announces Nursing Schools Scholarship Winners for Spring 2010
University of North Carolina and Seattle Pacific University Winners Selected for their Advice to Future Students
MARLBOROUGH, MA, June 2, 2010 –– BrainTrack, a widely referenced higher-education resource, today announced the Spring 2010 winners for its BrainTrack Nursing Schools Scholarship, a biannual scholarship for nursing degree students that is designed to help prospective students. The winners are Judith Hunt of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who received the $1,000 first-place award, and Chelsea Wiens of Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, Washington, who received a $500 second-place award.
"Through the essay responses of entrants, which we are publishing as student stories, our Nursing Schools Scholarship program offers those considering nursing career paths the perspectives of real student experiences," said David Siegel, Vice President of Operations with BrainTrack's publisher, Futuremeld, LLC. "The winning essays stood out for the creativity and practicality of guidance offered for prospective students."
"Nurses are some of the most trusted healthcare professionals and have the greatest mobility in terms of lateral and upward movement, plus an extensive educational path is not required to get started in the field, so I saw pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing as a great way to begin my career," said BrainTrack Nursing Schools Scholarship winner Judith Hunt, who is participating in an accelerated program at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in order to earn her second degree. Her winning essay offered a wealth of strategic advice for prospective nursing students to get the most out of their academic years in preparation for their career.
BrainTrack Nursing Schools Scholarship second-place winner Chelsea Wiens wrote that the best part of her experience at school has been the hands-on experience working with patients. "Nurses are the face of healthcare," she said, "because they are usually the practitioners with the most interaction, communication, opportunities to prevent harm, and chances to provide encouragement with patients." Wiens is earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Seattle Pacific University.
A summary of useful tips offered by entrants, as well as the winning essay entries, are published in BrainTrack's Nursing Student Stories section.
