Southern Polytechnic State University Winner Offers Useful Tips to Future Online Students

MARLBOROUGH, MA, April 28, 2011 - BrainTrack, a widely referenced higher education and career resource, today announced the winner of its BrainTrack Online Colleges Scholarship. The winning essay was written by Tiffany Warrior, a graduate student at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia. She is receiving a $1,500 scholarship. Entrants were asked to offer their tips for selecting an online program and for studying online.

Tiffany's essay was selected based on factors such as creativity, overall thoughtfulness and practical value. She plans on completing her Systems Engineering Master's degree in the Fall of 2012. Tiffany stated, "This scholarship will help me reduce my reliance on student loans to complete my degree."

"BrainTrack's goal with this scholarship competition was to tap into the experiences of online college students in order to help others with useful tips and advice," said David Siegel, Vice President with BrainTrack. "With Tiffany's winning essay and other high-quality entries we are pleased to have achieved that goal."

Winner Recommends Self Assessment in Selecting a Program

Tiffany writes, "Do your research, assess your personality and learning type, and assess your schedule and other commitments. Find a program that best suits your lifestyle." She also suggests that online students "see if the schools in your area offer online coursework; having the campus in commuting proximity helps if your schedule ever opens up, and/or if you feel you need a traditional class here and there ... Some schools offer hybrid courses (partially online, partially traditional) that can mix the best of both worlds for you."

For studying online, Tiffany offered a wide range of practical tips, many focused on the theme of "staying one step ahead." She wrote about the importance of communicating with family, friends, and fellow classmates and of taking care and pacing oneself.

Tiffany's winning entry can be found on BrainTrack's Online College Guide within the Student Experiences section.
