American Baptist Colleges

The American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA) originated from the Triennial Convention, which was formed in 1814 and the first US national Baptist denomination. American Baptism is a Protestant denomination. The church maintains headquarters in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Southern Baptists withdrew support from the Triennial Convention concerning disagreements over the issue of slavery, and formed the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) in 1845. The two groups came together again with the formation of a unified convention in 1907. In 1972, the name changed again to American Baptist Churches USA. One of the Church’s most famous members was civil rights leader and minister Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Today, the ABCUSA has over 1.4 million members, and more than 5,700 churches.
