Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod Colleges

Founded in Chicago, IL, in 1847, with current headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), is the eighth largest Protestant denomination in the United States, and is second only to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in terms of overall size. A moderately conservative, Confessional Lutheran denomination, LCMS originated from various communities of German Lutheran immigrants during the 1830s and 1840s. With more than two million baptized members and representation in all fifty states, roughly half of the church’s members are located in the Upper Midwest.
