Mennonite Church Colleges


The Mennonite Church is a group of Christian Anabaptist denominations named after Menno Simons (1496–1561). Forerunners of modern Mennonites were part of the Protestant Reformation. Mennonites can be found in tight-knit communities in over 50 countries on six continents. Today there are over 1.5 million Mennonites worldwide, with the largest population in the United States. Over the years, Mennonites have become known as one of the historic peace churches due to their commitment to nonviolence.

Mennonite Church Higher Education Overview

Eastern Mennonite University, also known as EMU, is the largest institution of higher learning affiliated with the Mennonite Church. EMU, founded in 1917, is a private liberal arts college located in Harrisonburg, Virginia EMU offers undergraduate and graduate programs in several subjects which include MBA, and majors and minors in science and arts. Another Mennonite school, Bluffton University (Bluffton, Ohio), is about the same size as EMU and was founded in 1899 as the Central Mennonite College. Bluffton offers more than 30 undergraduate degree programs and several graduate degree programs in subjects ranging from education to business administration.
