United Methodist Colleges

Founded in 1968, the United Methodist Church (UMC) was created from a combination of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Church. The denomination is Protestant Christian. In the US there are an estimated 8 million members, ranking it as the third largest US Christian Church. The Methodist Church's history dates back to the mid-1700's when it began as a movement within the Church of England.

United Methodist Higher Education Overview

In the US, United Methodist-related colleges and universities in the US include research universities, seminaries, historically Black colleges and universities (including a medical school), and two-year colleges. Methodist schools are located throughout the US in major metropolitan areas, small towns, and rural settings. UMC colleges and universities are related through UMC's General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. The schools undergo a review for institutional integrity, structure of academic programs, management, and church relationships. Some of the institutions are related to the church through historic ties to Methodism while others maintain active affiliations.
